๐๐ป STIMIES,
Full & frank disclosure - I'm not a Swiftie.
I have nothing against her, I do like some of her more folksy music & I really respect how she's built her career.
I've just never gone down the Swiftie rabbit hole.
Let alone listen to a 2 hour interview with her (to be fair, it's her first time doing this too)!
But I couldn't help seeing the social media craze surrounding the promo for her first podcast appearance, and the many little quotes that surfaced thereafter so I thought you know what?
Let's just give it a listen.
My (random) thoughts:
1) This podcast was sponsored by Wondery
Which I found curious because Amazon just announced a week ago that they were shutting it down, with 110 people out of a job & CEO Jen Sargent forced to leave.
This podcast will form part of Amazon's new "creator services" team & combine with Audible, suggesting that Amazon's podcast venture hasn't thrived as it'd hoped (since purchasing it for a whooping $200 million back in 2020).
No doubt the numbers for this Swiftie episode is through the roof but will it change the current plans for the company as a whole?
Maybe not.
2) There were no ads!
I know the podcast community was waiting with bated breath to see who'd be the featured sponsors of this episode but as it turns out?
No one was.
Given that this episode was unplanned and quite at the last hour, it may well be that the Amazon ad sales & sponsorship team didn't have the time to hammer out the right deal?
3) 2. Hours. Long.
Most were expecting Taylor to make a brief appearance; 30 minutes at best. Instead, she stuck around for 2 whole hours.
Is there any other media platform where you'd see some featured for so long?
Unlikely.
But that's the beauty of a podcast. It's like listening in to a bunch of close friends pouring the tea in their living room - you're there but you feel like maybe you shouldn't?
Yet the fact that you are means that you so much closer to these people (thanks, parasocial relationships).
See you in the next STIMY edition!
โ
P/S: I know I didn't talk about the content of the podcast at all, oops. The above points interested me more.
That said, some parts of the interview did stand out for me and I'll address them in a personal LinkedIn post
later this week! ๐
8th STIMY Hangout!
We just hosted our 8th STIMY Hangout!
For the first time, I must confess, I was to be able to actually sit down and chat, at length, with everyone. Which was so nice!
And as it turns out, everyone had lots to share.
We still all hung around for 4 hours!
[I then went home & crashed ๐]
Hope to see you at the next one?
The next STIMY Hangout will likely be in December - to get the details when it's released, just join our Telegram group and/or subscribe to the STIMY Newsletter.
